Define Fitness

I tried Define Fitness, located at 3 Expressway Plaza in Roslyn Heights, on a one day trial pass the company advertised in the local Pennysaver.

First and foremost, this location is extremely hard to find. It is located off of the north (westbound) side service road of the LIE between Roslyn Rd. and Willis Avenue. After passing it and making the long way around two times I gave up. A month later I tried again, this time programming the location in my GPS which directed me through Roslyn, past the train station and into the back of the office park, and it was much easier to find. The gym is located in the lower (parking) level of an office building.

The club is oriented toward those seeking personal training without the additional expense of a gym membership. There is no membership fee to join the facility, you simply pay the cost of the PT or individual pilates sessions and have use of the cardio equipment on days when you are not training. The club also offers massage and nutrition counseling.

The cost of personal training is:
Half-hour sessions: $49/session for pkg of 5, $48/session for pkg of 10, $47/session for pkg of 15, $46/session for pkg of 26, and $44/session for pkg of 39.

One Hour sessions: $77/session for pkg of 5, $73/session for pkg of 10, $70/session for pkg of 15, $67/session for pkg of 26, and $64/session for pkg of 39

The cost of pilates is: $85/session or $80/session for pkg of 5, $75/session for pkg of 10, or $70/session for pkg of $70.

Nutritional consultation is $150 for the initial hour and $50 for each 20-minute follow-up (for teens the rates are $125 and $45 respectively).

Massage is $45/30 minutes, $85/hour, or $125/90 minutes.

Amenities: There is one shower (which didn't drain at all the day I tried it), lotions, potions and hair dryers as well as full towel service and a water cooler.

Overall my impression was positive, the facility is small, but clean and bright (no windows for natural light though) and my trainer provided a challenging workout.
